Nothing can be added to so much truth. However, I would say that the advent of modern recordings has shifted fame from the composers (the real artists) to the performers (often very skilled mediums). When we go to a concert, the centre of attention is not Brahms or Mozart, but Volodos or the Vienna Philharmonic. Recordings have given performers a power they never had before. Even if Mahler or Mendelssohn were great conductors themselves, we don't remember them as conductors, we remember them as composers. That won't be the case with Barenboim, Muti or Thielemann (even though I adore the latter).

While I agree with the sentiments about the benality of most pop music, his arguments are very melodramatic. If he was to listen to and engage deeply with pop music, he would find there to be some wisdom buried in there. You cannot write off all pop music in one fell swoop (although he does concede later in the video that there are differences in quality amongst pop music). Suggesting we legally ban people from playing music in public is absolutely absurd and best suited to a totalitarian society. I agree with his idea to expand young people’s minds and to encourage silence.

Utterly predictable thatcherite boomer psuedo-intellectual going on a misanthropic autistic rant about how these damn kids don't appreciate classical music and are "addicted" to listening to pop music like any of us actually choose to listen to that garbage when its playing in the grocery store. No wonder the British youth hate their elders when this is the caliber of person they choose to listen to instead of them.

Last night, I sat through a TV broadcast of Mahler’s 2nd symphony. I’m no great fan of his music, but sought the experience of absorbing and contemplating his extended forms. By the end of the piece, I was glad I’d ‘subjected’ myself to it. I found this aspect rather satisfying, artistically. Liking or disliking the music, had become almost irrelevant. The radio series this speech was a part of, has become poorer since Roger passed on.

It's a lot of questions, for example, of the Jewish people at World War 2. As a whole, Christian people suffer the most millions of people died.. But there's never been a real honest. Discussion on how certain people died in concentration camps. Was it done on purpose with done an accident? There's a big thing out there that adolf hitler's mother was Catholic. And adolf hitler's father was jewish. But the 2 never married and that the father didn't want to do anything with the mother. After he found out she was pregnant. We also know that there were jewish generals in the military for the germans. As I see it, the German people were set up by the rulers of that time they created all these problems. The average German knew nothing of what was happening, but they laid all the blame on them.. The black. S were brought up North in the late 50s. What was the true intent of this? The big cities now north have been in decline ever since. Are the blacks being used to break down white civilization?I say yes. I respect this man, but if he watches t, v, you will see that most of the biracial couples that's placed on our t.V.Set advertisements cartoons is black males with white females. Then you got the mass of migration into america and europe as white society dies off. It's been nice to have a discussion with this man. He is very smart and I agree with him wholeheartedly. According to FBI statistics in the United States. There's a lot more black & white crime for the last 5060 years.. And as you can see what's happening in Europe through flooding, all the Western nations with all these immigrants from the third world.Hell holes. And if that wasn't enough we gotta push our own culture and we have to uphold theirs as they shit all over the european people.

Rudyard Kipling wrote popular songs, and bawdy songs were written in Elizabethan times (songs which are still performed today, 400 years later). What did Noel Coward say? " Extraordinary how potent cheap musc is." I love many classical pieces, but it's worth while to remember that only the very best of it remains. There was a lot of it that just disappeared. The same is true of popular music. The best will live on, and the rest will be abandoned. The only true judge of a work of art is time. Meanwhile, Scruton is like that most unlikeable of characters, the wine snob, except with music.

Reminds me of an essay I recently read, titled "when hooligans bach down" (no typing error). It was about a shop in a good area of Brighton, the owner had classy customers, but suddenly hooligans started to gather in front of his shop and they came to stay. He was facing bancruptcy, because his well-off customers stayed away. Then, one day, he installed loudspeakers outside the window and played Johann Sebastian Bach - within one day they vanished and never came back (the hools).

And if no sounds or visual impacts are molesting us, for sure some blithering idiot next to you will entertain you with the crap that he/she shouts into his bloody phone.

There is wonderful classical music, and hideous classical pieces. So it is with rock and pop. Scrutin may be referring both to muzak, and to machine-generated noise such as techno. Or inane rhymes, as in rap. Long live The Beatles, and also progressive British rock!
